Artwork Style
Tree Whisper Oracles are created with my own photographic images of trees, plants and natural landscapes around my local area. The Original Edition was photographed with an old phone camera, while The Secret Garden and Dream Travellers Editions were created with a my Ricoh Gr3 camera.
The images are mirrored. This reveals the appearance of faces and body parts through the trees and surrounding plant life. Often there are many possible choices for the merging mirrors so I attune with my felt-senses to guide me into the energy that wants to come through. In the Tree Whisper Oracles these faces and forms represent tree spirits. These oracles are a co-creation between myself and the tree spirits in how I personally experience them.
The images invite us to sense into the atmosphere of the environment within the card through our intuition and our felt-senses. The overall images are designed to be ambient with soft and bokeh style photography blended with fine details. Some images are more like a hazy dream world while others are crisp and clear. I also like to further enhance some of my images with special effects like lights, stars, orbs and coloured filters to create a magical atmosphere.
The photographs are all taken in the Highlands of Scotland. I visit natural places and take photos in all weather and this shows in the overall image. My images capture the atmosphere of the landscape with spirit and energy. They embody the spirits of nature and the wild places where I live.
My oracle artwork is not collage, image overlay, cut and paste, AI or any other photography/artwork style that brings random and unrelated subjects or images from different locations together to create an artificial subject or focal point, other than what I have specified above with mirroring, orbs, starts, lights and filters. I am not a professionally trained photographer and I do not use high tech editing equipment. My images are rustic and this is how they are meant to be. I choose to align my images with wild untamed nature and embrace what is alive, real and present in the creation process.
